When I travel, I prefer to live like a local as much as possible. That’s why I enjoy staying in small family-owned guest houses, home stays or doing home exchanges. Swapping places when I travel is not only one of my favorite ways of staying local—in a house or apartment instead of a hotel room, you have a kitchen to cook in, you’re in a neighborhood where often your exchange host points out their favorite local spots—but it’s completely FREE.
Traveling more means traveling on a lot less money, unless you’re wealthy.
And traveling on less resources often gives you the most local, close-to-the-ground experiences.
That’s why I wanted to share one of my favorite travel resources, HomeExchange.com, as well as a giveaway I am running on my other blog: How To Travel for Free (or pretty damn near it!).
How To Travel for Free is an e-book that I co-wrote with my partner and boyfriend, Travel Sherpa Keith Hajovsky. It details the many, many methods we use to travel completely free, or really close to it.
This week we are running a giveaway for a free 3-month membership to HomeExchange.com. So if you’re interested in checking out this awesome travel method for yourself, hop on over and enter!
